2019 Mazda6 vs 2019 Honda Accord
Toyota and Honda have been at the top of the Japanese-made American automobile market for a few decades now. However, Mazda has been steadily growing here in the US. Many Mazda owners swear by their purchases similar to how Toyota and Honda owners do. When it comes down to it, which one do you choose?
Today we’ll try to answer that question by putting the base model 2019 Mazda6 Sport and the base model 2019 Honda Accord head-to-head to see who really is best. Who will make it out on top?

Mazda and the Driver Experience
Despite lower horsepower and torque, the Mazda6 wins against the Accord. That’s not to say the Accord is a slouch; it’s good, great even. However, the Mazda6 is just better. Where the Accord feels competent, if a little bland, the Mazda6 dominates and, dare we say, exhilarates. The Mazda6 is a driver’s car.
This can be attributed to a few reasons:
1. Superior Acceleration
The Mazda6 plants you in your seat with a 0-60 of 6.7 seconds, where the Accord does 0-60 in 8 seconds flat. 1.3 seconds difference isn’t that much on paper, but when starting from a complete stop or passing on the highway, the superiority of the Mazda6 is blatantly apparent.
2. Tuned Transmission
The CVT on the Accord is acceptable, but it constantly seems to be trying to upshift. The 6-speed automatic on the Mazda6 works seamlessly with the 2.5L turbocharged engine to give you access to all that low RPM power. The ability to shift ‘manually’ adds to the tactile, driver-centric feel.
3. Unbelievable Handling
The Accord has excellent handling and steering for a sedan. The steering is a little artificial feeling though, lacking a sense of weight. It retains traction well, and you feel safe no matter the conditions. Nevertheless, the Mazda6 has extraordinary handling and steering. The steering feels weighty and preternaturally responsive. The car is glued to the road. It doesn't just feel safe, it's confidence inspiring. We imagine this is what it would feel like if someone tried to turn a Formula 1 car into a sedan.
