For the 2019 model year, everyone’s favorite roadster has undergone some revisions. We’re stoked for the all-new 2-19 Mazda MX-5 Miata and cannot wait for it to arrive sometime in the fall. While a more specific official release date hasn’t been given, Mazda has confirmed that the new Miata will be available this fall. Updates include a refined powertrain that delivers more power and fuel efficiency at the same time, a newly available brown soft top, and a number of other improvements driven by customer desires, including a backup camera and the addition of available i-ACTIVSENSE® safety features.
For the 2019 model year, the MX-5 Miata will feature the same SKYACTIV-G 2.0L engine, but it has undergone a number enhancements and improvements, delivering more responsiveness, higher performance, and greater efficiency. In the end, the Miata achieves 181 horsepower, which is a 17% improvement over years prior, alongside 151 pound-feet of torque. Changes that led to this result include:
- Reduced internal mass and friction
- Reduced exhaust loss
- Improved combustion
- Dual-mass flywheel
- New exhaust system
- New final drive ratio
Despite all of these changes and improvements, the Miata has only put on 7 lbs. of curb weight.
In addition to the new backup camera, the MX-5 Miata will feature available driver-assistive safety technologies. The available features include Traffic Sign Recognition, Smart City Brake Support, and several i-ACTIVSENSE® features. The i-ACTIVSENSE® package includes features such as Adaptive Front-lighting System, High-Beam Control, Mazda Radar Cruise Control, and many others.
