While certain segments might be larger, there compact sedan segment is one filled with depth and plenty of great options to meet the needs of a multitude of drivers. We certainly have our favorite entry into the class, but we thought we’d see how it measures up to one of its biggest competitors by pitting the 2018 Mazda3 vs 2018 Hyundai Elantra.
As you can see with just one glance at the table down below, these two vehicles are extremely comparable to one another. Each clearly has its advantages, but none of them are blowing the other vehicle out of the water by any means. We thought we’d poke our way through the table to show you exactly how the two sedans differ and how each one surpasses the other.
In the first row we looked at power, an area which is always important regardless of vehicle class or type. An advantage of 8 horsepower certainly isn’t a gamechanger, and some might not even notice a different if they were to drive them each back to back. But even a slight advantage like this gives the Mazda3 a leg up over the Elantra. However, generally a boost in power goes hand in hand with a fuel economy sacrifice. But fear not, that’s not the case here. Even with the extra power, the Mazda3 still gets an extra 2 miles to the gallon through the city and on the highway.
The Hyundai Elantra does get a leg up on the Mazda3 in one area though: cargo capacity. Offering an extra 2 cubic feet of space, you’d be able to hold a bit more luggage or groceries in the trunk of the Elantra. If you can live without those 2 cu. ft., then get in touch with us and we’ll get you behind the wheel of a 2018 Mazda3 at your earliest convenience!
